Help to protect yourself
In an age when digital financial transactions are becoming increasingly common, your security is of particular concern to us. The trend away from traditional methods of payment and towards innovative technologies does open up new opportunities – but it also poses growing challenges in terms of fraud protection. As a result, we would like to make you aware of the need to always be alert and sceptical when using your debit card. A handful of helpful tips are listed below:
Using your card properly
- Never store your PIN code in the same place as your debit card.
- Avoid using easily guessed number combinations for your PIN code.
- Keep your PIN code secret and never share it with third parties.
- Ensure you cover the keypad when inputting your PIN code.
- Check terminals to make sure nothing looks strange. Do not withdraw money if you suspect that the machine has been tampered with.
- Switch on the “Activate push notifications” feature on your debiX+ app so you receive a push notification for every debit.
- Block lost, stolen or retained cards immediately, either on the debiX+ app or by calling +423 235 70 00.
Tips for online card payments
- Only make purchases from trustworthy online shops.
- Only make payments on secure websites (as identified by the “https” at the start of the URL and the padlock symbol).
- Keep your card details secret and only store your card details on trustworthy online shops.
- If you do not make online payments, you can disable the “Online payments” feature in your debiX+ app to enhance security.

Tips for using your card abroad
- Your VP Bank Debit Mastercard is automatically limited to use within Europe as proactive protection against skimming (this does not apply to the VP Bank Debit Mastercard International). Remember to deactivate “GEO blocking” on your card before you travel outside Europe.
- Unauthorised individuals can use RFID readers to access the information on your card using wireless technology. Protect yourself from this by using an RFID blocker – whether that is a SecureCard in your wallet or a wallet with integrated RFID protection.
Mobile banking security
- Always use the latest version of your banking app.
- Protect your smart phone with a strong password / PIN code or biometric data (e.g. Face ID).
Additional security information:
- Avoid using public computers and Wi-Fi networks for banking transactions.
- Scrutinise every e-mail you receive and never click on a link that promises to solve a problem for you. If you receive an e-mail of this nature, log straight into the client portal or your debiX+ app and see whether there actually is a problem. In principle, you can assume that neither debiX+ nor VP Bank will contact you via e-mail to notify you of a problem.
